Spirulina made tasty and smooth. Spirulina is a very good source of complete protein for vegans and raw foodists to have on a near-daily basis. Lemon is used to cover up the taste of 'sea' in spirulina, and the mixture is blended to remove any clumps. Quick, easy, strength-giving and slightly filling drink - works as a snack.
Cost: £0.60 (GBP)
Prep time:
Total time:
Yield: One small glass
Lemon:
one whole
Spirulina:
1 tbsp
Kelp:
1 teasp (optional)
Water:
as needed
Using a blender is essential, since the spirulina clumps up easily.
One grapefruit can be used instead of the lemon and can taste very nice.
If you are not used to spirulina you may wish to start with a smaller quantity first, such as one teaspoon, and build up from there gradually.
Unless you have instructions from a doctor or a another good health-care practitioner who knows your personal situation, don't take any more than 1/2 teasp of kelp per day. Kelp can have huge health benefits, especially for the thyroid, but depending on the condition of the thyroid it can have adverse effects as well for some people.
I invented this protein drink out of necessity, realizing the amazing health benefits and high protein content of spirulina, while struggling to drink the gooey mess it becomes when mixed with water. Lemon covers the up the taste of 'sea', whereas blending makes it into an even smooth consistency, perfect for drinking.
